Change of Passport requirement migrating to Australia from the Philippines

If complex application processes to migrate to Australia from the Philippines aren’t enough now the department is ‘juggling a way to Change of Passport’ application in their cumbersome on-line application portal.

A Philippine passport is required to travel to Australia because under Public Interest Criteria: 4021 Either: (a) the applicant holds a valid passport that: (i) was issued to the applicant by an official source; and (ii) is in the form issued by the official source; and (iii) is not in a class of passports specified by the Minister in an instrument in writing for this clause; or (b) it would be unreasonable to require the applicant to hold a passport.

Department of Home Affairs are phasing out the use of Form 929 – Change of contact and/or passport details form, for passport updates. If you take this option, expect to wait up to 30 days for the department to process your request and update your File.

If you secure a new passport, you need to tell the department when you get a new passport so that they can link it to your visa or your particular application. The quickest way to do this is to update your passport details in your ImmiAccount as follows:

  • Login to ImmiAccount
  • Use the ‘+’ icon next to your visa or citizenship application to expand the application details
  • Select ‘Update details’
  • Select ‘Change of passport details’
  • Select the applicant
  • Enter the new passport details
  • Enter the reason for the change
  • Select ‘Submit’

Your passport will be linked to your visa or application, within 72 hours.

If you have not used an ImmiAccount before, you may be able to create a new account, import your application to use the online change of passport form.

You can, if the need arises, import an application into your existing ImmiAccount if: a) you have an in-progress paper application or b) an online application was lodged for you by someone else, such as a Migration Agent. Refer to Import an application on the department’s website for further information.

If you cannot use ImmiAccount you can indicate this to the department about your new passport, on the online form.
