A Call From Immigration During Partner Visa Processing

The Department of Immigration under the Department of Home Affairs are claiming to continually process Prospective Marriage visas, Temporary Partner visas, and Permanent Partner visas.

The department states that if your Fiancé (Class TO subclass 300) and Temporary (i.e., either Class UF subclass 309 or Class UK subclass 820 Partner visa only) with your Filipino partner contains all the required information, including health and police checks, it can be processed faster.

The department suggested that applicants and their Australian sponsors log into their ImmiAccount to make sure they (and any dependants included in their Australian partner visa application) have provided all the required documents.

Filipino applicants who have applied for a partner visa may receive a phone call from the Department of Immigration to get some more information to progress their partner visa application.

The department clearly states that these phone calls may be outside normal Australian business hours.

NOTE: – The phone call could come from any of the department’s global processing offices.

RESPALL Migration Australia is deeply concerned and surprised by these ‘invasive and continuing practise’ because, with 23 years of experience dealing with the department, they have encountered many instances of difficulty communicating with personnel under these circumstances when the Filipino applicant lodged their own partner visa application and are not ready for such a telephone call.

  • On many occasions, the Filipino visa applicant simply cannot understand the English accent used by the personnel of Department of Immigration because they are calling from a non-english country with a thick English accent that Filipinos simply cannot comprehend or understand. This caused the department to refuse the visa application because ‘they could retrive additional information at the time of the call’.
  • On many occasions, the Filipino visa applicant doesn’t have a pen or paper to write down information ‘the caller’ asked for, or the time of day of the call. This caused the department to refuse the visa application because ‘they didn’t receive additional information, usually via emails with attachments in the time given to respond from the time of the call’. The department usually asks a response, within 7 days.
  • On many occasions, the Filipino visa applicant has just woken up and or is about to retire for the day and may not ‘be ready to answer the questions of the departmental case officer’. This caused the department to refuse the visa application because ‘they couldn’t retrive additional information at the time of the call and the answers provided were different to their Relationship Statement’.
  • On many occasions, the Filipino visa applicant was not feeling well and could not answer the departmental case offier appropriately. This caused the department to refuse the visa application because ‘they couldn’t retrive additional information at the time of the call’.
  • On many occasions, the Filipino visa applicant did answer the departmental case officer’s questions but for whatever reason the department responsed with ‘a letter claiming adverse information was collected ‘during the telephone interview’ as the answers differed from their Relationship Statement’.

Furthermore, because the caller identifies themselves as an authority, Filipino partner visa applicants must now be aware of scammers who impersonate the Department of Home Affairs personnel by claiming to be phoning on the department’s behalf.

Note: – It is important to understand that departmental case officers are supposed to always identify themselves clearly before they ask you for any further information.

Filipino partner visa applicants must know that departmental case officers will never ask for their:

  • Credit card information
  • Banking details
  • ImmiAccount password
