MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTISTS or termed as Medical Technologist in the Philippines conduct medical laboratory tests to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
If you want to migrate to Australia permanently under SkillSelect from the Philippines, Medical Technologist will need a level of qualification equal to an Australian bachelor’s degree or higher qualification. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
Under the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZCO) UNIT GROUP 2346 with subgroup 234611, Medical Laboratory Scientist with alternative titles of Hospital Scientist and Medical Scientific Officer perform tasks such as:
- preparing tissue sections for microscopic examination
- examining and analyzing samples to study the effects of microbial infections
- analyzing samples of body tissue and fluids to develop techniques to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases
- advising Medical Practitioners on the interpretation of tests and methods for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease
- setting up the steps and rules of laboratory medical testing
- operating and maintaining laboratory equipment
- maintaining laboratory quality assurance and safety standards
- preparing scientific papers and reports
- studies the formation, early growth, and development of living organisms
The SkillSelect assessment process comprises of a) Initial assessment by our Documentation Specialist based in Makati City, Philippines using Schedule 6D of the Migration Act 1958 to meet and wherever possible, surpass the current points requirements, b) Document Assessment by Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) (assessed as Medical Laboratory Technician which is in Short-term List of occupation and c) Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) Exam assessed as Medical Laboratory Scientist once passed in one of the testing centres in the Philippines or in other countries.
An English test requirement in the following test modules of a) IELTS (General or Academic) – overall band score of 7.0 or higher or b) TOEFL – Total Score of 95 points or c) Pearson PTE Academic – Overall score of 65 points or higher is accepted by the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) for processing as a skill assessment to becoming a permanent resident.
